Traffic flow and road conditions

Due to strong wind passenger traffic is allowed only:

on the A6 Rijeka-Zagreb motorway between the Kikovica and Delnice junctions, detour: DC3 state road.

On the A7 motorway between the Rijeka istok and Šmrika junctions and on the section of the DC8 Adriatic road Karlobag-Sveta Marija Magdalena there is a traffic ban on: doubledeckers, trailers and motorcycles.

Due to oil on the road on the A1 motorway between the Prokljan rest area and Benkovac junction towards Zagreb the driving speed has to be reduced to 60 km/h:

Due to a traffic accident on the DC8 Adriatic road at Debeli Brijeg towards Dubrovnik traffic is suspended.

Roads are partly wet and slippery. Rock sliding is possible.

Due to rock sliding traffic is suspended on the DC512 state road at the Stupica tunnel towards Vrgorac.

Traffic is dense in cities and on their bypass roads - on the A3 Zagreb bypass road between the Zagreb zapad and Lučko junctions towards Lipovac.

During the day difficulties may occur in roadwork areas.

Drivers are invited to adjust the way of driving and the speed to road conditions and to keep distance!

1 November-31 March headlights have to be on during the day as well.

Traffic restrictions:

A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići motorway:

at the Mala Kapela tunnel one lane is free only in each direction until 4 April;
until 18 April traffic is suspended at the exit of Bosiljevo 1 junction from direction Zagreb as well as at the entrance of the Bosiljevo 1 junction in direction Rijeka/Split, detour: Novigrad junction from direction Zagreb, Vrbovsko junction towards Rijeka/Split;

A2 Zagreb-Macelj motorway:

at the Krapina bridge 30th-33rd km one lane is free only in both directions until 26 June;
1, 2 and 3 April, 8, 9 and 10 April 8pm-5am traffic is suspended between the Krapina and Trakošćan junctions in both directions, detour: DC1 state road;

A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway:

at the Zagreb (Plitvice) rest area 17th km-16th km traffic is flowing in reduced lanes until 31 March 2025 (driving speed limit of 60 km/h);
until 30 April at the Stari Grabovac rest area in direction Bregana the parking surfaces are closed, the petrol station however remains open;
until 1 April at the Zagreb zapad junction from direction Lipovac (A3) and from direction Macelj (A2) towards Zagreb (most Sava-Jankomir) one lane is free only;
until 4 April at the Lučko junction (Kalinovo viaduct) in direction Bregana trafic is flowing in reduced lanes;
until 28 May between the Nova Gradiška and Lužani junctions one lane is free only in each direction;
until 28 May on the section Lužani-Slavonski Brod zapad 196th-200th km one lane is free only in both directions;
until 1 June at the Kraljeva Velika jug (Lipovljani) rest area the parking surfaces are closed, until 10 June at the Kraljeva Velika sjever rest area;
until 11 April traffic is closed at the entrance of the Ivanić Grad junction in direction Lipovac, detour: Križ junction;
until 1 April the petrol station at the Dragalić jug rest area between the Okučani and Nova Gradiška junctions will be closed, the parking surfaces remain open;
24-28 March between the Križ and Popovača junctions at the Česma bridge at 84th km in direction Zagreb one lane is free only;

A4 Zagreb-Goričan motorway:

until 28 March between the Sesvete and Zagreb istok junctions 93rd-96th km one lane is free only in direction Zagreb, in direction Goričan traffic is flowing in reduced lanes;

A6 Rijeka-Zagreb motorway:

until 15 April at the Orehovica junction traffic is suspended in the exit lane from direction Zagreb towards Trsat (Rijeka centar) detour: Čavle junction-ŽC5205-DC3-Rijeka-Rijeka istok junction (A7)-DC404-Rijeka;

A7 Rupa-Rijeka-Žuta Lokva motorway:

until 4 April 9pm-5.30am traffic is suspended between the Šurinje and Orehovica junctions in direction Zagreb/Križišće, detour: through Rijeka;

A8/A9 motorway in Istria:

traffic is occasionally suspended between the Učka tunnel and Matulji (Učka) junction due to roadwork, detour: DC500 Vranja-Šušnjevica-Vozilići (DC64) and ŽC5047 Vranja (A8/DC500)-Veprinac-Matulji (DC8);
between the Učka tunnel and Matulji (Učka) junction there is a traffic ban on vehicles wider than 3 m and longer than 22 m in both directions;
due to roadwork between the Lupoglav and Cerovlje junctions there is a traffic ban on vehicles wider than 3 m;

DC1 state road:

until 21 April on the DC1 Solin-Klis highway one lane is free only in each direction;
until 31 May traffic is closed on the section Gračac-Knin at the Stara Straža viaduct, detour for passenger traffic/vehicles up to 7,5 tonnes: Žagrović;
until 30 April at Brnaze one lane is free only;
until 29 March 10pm-5am traffic is suspended on the DC1 Solin-Klis highway, detour: ŽC6253 regional road;

DC33 Drniš-Šibenik state road:

until 1 April traffic is suspended at the Dumbočica tunnel, detour: DC33-Dubrava junction-Dubrava-Šibenik-Meterize junction-DC8;

DC62 Ravča-Vrgorac state road:

until 16 May traffic is closed;

DC76 Baška Voda-Zagvozd state road:

until 29 March traffic is closed at the Sveti Ilija tunnel, detour for the A1 motorway Šestanovac-Baška Voda: DC39-Šestanovac-Dubci-DC8-Baška Voda, for direction Vrgorac-Baška Voda: DC512-Vrgorac-Makarska-DC8-Baška Voda; detour for the state roads: DC62-Zagvozd-Šestanovac-DC39-Dubci-DC8-Baška Voda;

DC116 Hvar-Stari Grad state road:

until 29 March 11pm-5am traffic is suspended at the Selca Dubovica tunnel, detour: ŽC6252 Hvar-Brusje-Stari Grad;

DC553 Omiš bypass road:

1-4 April traffic is closed, detour: DC8/DC70 state roads.

Border crossings

Until 31 December 2026 at the Erdut-Bogojevo border crossing there is a traffic ban on freight vehicles exceeding 7,5 tonnes.

The Gunja-Brčko border crossing is closed for all traffic, detour: Županja-Orašje border crossing.

At the Ilok-Bačka Palanka bridge traffic is allowed for vehicles up to 24 tonnes (driving speed limit of 30 km/h).

Starting 3 Junly 2023 international traffic is possible at the Slivno-Drinovačko Brdo border crossing.

Transit freight traffic is suspended at the Tovarnik/Šid border crossing, detour: Bajakovo border crossing.

Traffic is suspended for vehicles whose maximum weight exceeds 7,5 tonnes at the Pribanjci-Vinica border crossing on the DC204 state road.

The Dvor and Vitaljina border crossings are open for pedestrians and passenger traffic only.

The border crossings for the international maritime traffic are: Umag, Pula, Mali Lošinj, Vis, Ubli and Cavtat (Book of Regulations on border crossings of the Republic of Croatia, pubblished at the Narodne novine, 2 January 2023).

Ferry traffic

The following catamarans and ships do not operate:

Pula-Zadar-Pula, Mali Lošinj-Cres-Rijeka and Novalja-Rab-Rijeka catamarans;
Mali Lošinj-Unije-Susak ship.

30 March Prapratno-Sobra ferry departs at 9.30pm (instead at 8.30pm).

Railway traffic, 28 March 2025

24-28 as well as 31 March passengers of the following trains are transported by buses:

3501 Golubovec 3.56am – Varaždin 4.58am
3500 Varaždin 5.09am – Golubovec 6.24am
3505 Golubovec 6.36am – Varaždin 7.39am.

Due to roadwork delays should be expected on the following sections as passengers are transported by buses:

- between Dugo Selo and Vrbovec, Križevci and Koprivnica railway stations on the rail state border-Botovo-Dugo Selo,

- between Sveti Ivan Žabno and Koprivnica,

- between Novska and Sunja railway stations on the rail Zagreb-Sisak-Novska,

- between Solin and Split Predgrađe railway stations on the rail Oštarije-Knin-Split,

- between Pleternica and Blacko Jakšić railway stations on the rail Pleternica-Velika,

- between Križevci and Sveti Ivan Žabno railway stations,
- between Čakovec and Macinec railway stations,

- between Duga Resa, Karlovac and Bubnjarci railway stations.

One lane is free only:

- between Slavonski Brod and Sibinj railway stations on the rail Novska-Tovarnik-state border 9.30am-1.30pm.

Driving restrictions for heavy goods vehicles

Summer restrictions on freight vehicles

15 June-15 September there are traffic restrictions on freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes on Saturdays 4am-2pm, on Sundays noon-11pm and on holidays 3pm-11pm on the following roads:

- DC8-DC40 Bakar junction-Zadar-Split-Klek border crossing-Zaton Doli border crossing-Dubrovnik-Karasovići border crossing (except on the part DC27-Šibenik bridge-Šibenik-DC58, Bilice roundabout at Solin-Stobreč);

- DC9-Metković-Opuzen-DC8;

- DC21 Kaštel border crossing-Buje-Kanfanar junction (except on the part DC21 Kanfanar-Pula-DC66);

- DC23 Žuta Lokva-Senj;

- DC39-A1-Šestanovac roundabout-DC8-Dupci;

- DC66 Pula junction (A9)-Raša-Opatija-DC8;

- DC200 Buje (DC21)-Plovanija border crossing;

- DC300 Buje (DC21)-Umag;

- Ž5002 Novigrad-Tar-Poreč-Vrsar (DC21);

Traffic restrictions for transit freight vehicles through Croatia:

For freight vehicle exceeding 7,5 tonnes there is a traffic ban on the DC414 state road from DC8-DC414 intersection to Prapratno junction as well as from Prapratno junction to Komarna junction (Pelješac bridge and its access roads).

According to the Book of regulations for public road transit traffic, freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes without a trailer/with a trailer longer than 14 m are allowed to use the following roads:

Traffic forecast for 29 March 2025

Due to rain most roads will be wet and slippery.

Due to strong wind in the area of Velebit there can be traffic bans on some vehicles.

Traffic will be dense in cities and on their bypass roads as well as on some motorway sections.

Difficulties may also occur in roadwork areas.

In freight traffic there can be delays at the border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, especially at: Svilaj, Stara Gradiška, Batina, Bajakovo, Županja and Tovarnik.

In ferry traffic there can be difficulties due to wind.

Drivers are invited to adjust the way of driving and the speed to road conditions and to keep distance!
